Is your social media also filled with posts about DeepSeek, ChatGPT, and Gemini, or is it just me? Just a few days ago, I had no idea what DeepSeek was, and now here I am writing a blog about it.
I was very curious to know what’s going on all of a sudden. I read about it and thought I’d share what this DeepSeek vs ChatGPT thing is all about.
Note: This blog is for all people regardless of their technical expertise.
Going Back in Time to Understand DeepSeek vs ChatGPT
The evolution of artificial intelligence began back in 1950 when Alan Turing published his paper, ‘Computing Machinery and Intelligence.‘ This paper proposed the Turing Test to determine whether machines could think.
Many developments in AI since then have advanced this journey to the level of deep learning. And here we are, with the AI market projected to reach 243.72 billion USD this year (Source: Statista).
ChatGPT was launched on November 30, 2022. Many credit ChatGPT with starting the AI boom. I also believe the same. Before ChatGPT, only a few people in the industry had knowledge of AI. ChatGPT showed the world what AI is capable of. And nowadays, AI language models like ChatGPT and Gemini are helping many of us with our tasks.
DeepSeek was born the year after ChatGPT’s launch, with its first series model release on November 2, 2023. To be precise, 337 days after ChatGPT’s debut.
On 24th of January 2025, DeepSeek-R1 was released. This AI language model can solve science problems better than OpenAI’s best model, GPT-4. They also released another model called Janus-Pro-7B fully capable of generating images from text.
That is the reason behind the spark of the debate “DeepSeek vs ChatGPT” that is happening from corporate offices to college students.
DeepSeek vs ChatGPT: AI Chatbot Comparison in Detail
Here I have given a detailed comparison between DeepSeek vs ChatGPT based on many aspects:
-
Definition:
#What is DeepSeek?
Let’s do one thing. Let’s ask ChatGPT, ‘What is DeepSeek?‘ and do the reverse when we know more about ChatGPT in the next section.

#What is ChatGPT?
Let’s see what DeepSeek has to say about ChatGPT.

User Interface
#ChatGPT
It has a very user-friendly interface. If you have access to ChatGPT Plus, you will see that it is more polished there.
I don’t have the premium version, so I can only show you its interface on the free version.
#DeepSeek:
The user interface of DeepSeek is similar to ChatGPT. The only difference is that it has an extra button “DeepSeek-R1” in the search box.
Don’t just think of DeepSeek-R1 as a normal feature on your screen. It is the reason why DeepSeek is able to surpass OpenAI in terms of reasoning ability.
-
Biasness
I want to share a truth here: The bias of an AI model can’t be determined exactly because it continuously processes data and makes its own decisions based on experience.
#ChatGPT:
OpenAI has implemented moderation tools and fine-tuning to reduce harmful or biased outputs. But it’s not perfect. It may throw some biased output at you. However, in most cases it gives intelligent and logical answers.
ChatGPT’s response to the question, “Is DeepSeek better than you?”
This last line from the above image is important to understand DeepSeek vs ChatGPT comparison.
“It depends on what you’re looking for. If you’re searching through massive data, DeepSeek might be better. If you’re looking for a conversation or help with a task, that’s where I shine!” – ChatGPT generated.
#DeepSeek
DeepSeek is a newly introduced tool that was introduced a few weeks ago. Its bias levels depend on its training data.
What I think is if it’s trained on niche datasets, it might exhibit biases specific to that domain. This is not a new thing in the case of AI language models.
However, DeepSeek can have better control over bias if it uses advanced filtering or domain-specific training. But as of now, our findings are as follows:
DeepSeek’s response to the question, “Is ChatGPT better than you?”
DeepSeek is also saying something similar to ChatGPT, which is: “Ultimately, the ‘better’ model depends on the specific use case and user preferences”.

Reasoning and Capabilities
Above, I mentioned that DeepSeek AI model efficiency in reasoning is greater than ChatGPT. But is this actually true, or is DeepSeek just making this claim? Is there any evidence to support it?
I will explain this here.
#ChatGPT
We have all seen that ChatGPT sometimes becomes very dumb. However, I still believe that ChatGPT is a very good AI chatbot that excels in general-purpose tasks like writing, generating ideas, and answering questions.
However, it struggles with highly specialized or technical domains.
I just wanted to cross-check this. That’s why I gave the coin change problem to ChatGPT: – a common programming problem asked in interviews at many big companies.
Results are here:
#DeepSeek:
DeepSeek claims to outperform ChatGPT in specific areas.
You remember I earlier pasted the response of ChatGPT on DeepSeek capabilities. Go read that again. It said that DeepSeek might be better for handling massive data, math, code, and reasoning tasks.
It is the DeepSeek-R1 model that has made all of this possible and has surpassed OpenAI.
I gave the same problem to DeepSeek. See how it responded.
#My findings:
After analyzing both outputs, we can see that DeepSeek considers every possibility in real time and presents a more detailed and helpful response to users.
<deepseek-reasoner > is the model that generates a Chain of Thought (COT) before output to improve the AI chatbot accuracy.
However, that does not mean ChatGPT is inaccurate. I just want to convey that DeepSeek does have some degree of superiority in reasoning as of now. But we can’t say that ChatGPT performance is weak.
You can clearly see various NLP models comparison below:
-
Pricing
Let’s find out who is winning in terms of cost.
#ChatGPT
It offers a free tier with limited access. In the free version, you will get older model versions and slower response times.
For ChatGPT Plus the cost is $20/month. It gives you faster responses, priority access, and access to newer models like GPT-4 and Sora.
For ChatGPT Pro you have to pay $200/month. But in return you will get unlimited generations and 1080p resolution for high volume workflows
#DeepSeek
Surprisingly, the cost of DeepSeek is very low compared to ChatGPT. It is new to the market, that is why its pricing model is more competitive to attract users.
Like ChatGPT, it also provides free access with limited features. But if you want to explore DeepSeek to its maximum potential, you have to pay.
Models | Content Length | Max. COT Tokens | Max. Output Tokens | 1M Tokens Output Price |
DeepSeek-V3 | 64K | – | 8K | $ 1.10 |
DeepSeek-R1 | 64K | 32K | 8K | $ 2.19 |
#Note:
The price I have mentioned here might vary by the time you read this blog. Kindly cross-check.
Conclusion
This era of AI-driven digital transformation has brought many changes. From SEO to Generative Engine Optimization, from manual gear to self-driving cars – we are seeing many things in a quick time. All we can do is accept these changes and stay informed.
This NLP models comparison: “DeepSeek vs. ChatGPT,” is another important topic on our checklist. AI language models are continuously evolving, and in 2025, there is no single “best” AI chatbot. The right choice depends on the tasks you need to perform.
DeepSeek’s capabilities will continue to grow, but that does not mean it is a direct ChatGPT alternative. You can use both simultaneously.
